What is the Love Symposium?

November 15 - 17, 2024

Lighthaven Campus, Berkeley, CA

The Love Symposium is meant to bring together the world's experts and passionate devotees to understanding how science and technology may help solve some of the hardest problems related to our relationships.

Our foremost emphasis is on "the search problem" (which will be explained shortly), but anyone working on dating apps, writing and thinking about love and relationships, or who thinks we can make way better technology for this and that it is really important are exactly who should attend.

Regarding the search problem specifically:

Relationship outcomes between people can be predicted and is therefore a search problem which if made more efficient would dramatically improve the quality of human life.

Here is a question to ask yourself: Why can’t you search for friends on Facebook that you haven’t made yet based on a set of criteria you are looking for, combined with what Facebook already knows about your personality and existing relationships? My belief is that it is only because we haven’t yet decided it is possible. My hope is this symposium will be the first to inspire and pave the way towards us taking this capability seriously.

Why? The reason is no less than that relationships between humans are the sources of our greatest happiness and suffering, and that what we feel in them can be radically improved by access to people more innately compatible with us. Families, friendships, companies, communities, research, life lessons, are all created between groups of people, and we think that being able to search for those people can create a life of social luxury for many more people on the planet.

This event will be filled with talks, workshops, hackathons, paper readings, and late-night conversations around the fireside.

Our hope is to inspire teams to form or augment and to create lasting community around this annual event.

If you have a session or activity you might like to run at the symposium, let us know!

Eros will have naked bodies; Friendship naked personalities.
